Bluffing Math: How Often Does a Bluff Need to Work?

Most players treat bluffing as a feel thing. Some nights they feel brave and fire, other nights they give up, and the results swing wildly either way. Then they decide bluffing is a matter of nerve, or of reading souls across the table.

It is neither. Every bluff has a price, the same way every call does, and you can work it out in a few seconds. Once you know the number, the question stops being "do I feel lucky?" and becomes "will this player fold more often than the bet requires?" That is a question you can actually answer.
